2012 Summer Concert Series

With four concerts scheduled, the UU Summer Concert Series is shorter than in the past, but there has been no change in the superb quality of our performers! Another big change is free admission (though suggested donations of $15 will be gratefully accepted.) This is all thanks to the generous sponsorship of Mascoma Bank and local business partners.

The four concerts are scheduled every Wednesday night in July at the UU Church in South Strafford, Vermont.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information, contact Fred Wolfe at
(802) 765-4295.

Below is the terrific program for 2012.

July 4: Jeremiah McLane, Bob Murray, and Susannah Blachly

Join Jeremiah, Bob, and Susannah for songs that spring from their individual work in Archetypal Dreamwork. With guitar, piano, accordian and fiddle, they will make music that both reflects and honors their individual commitments to discovering and responding to the personal truths revealed in their dreams.

July 11: Samantha Moffatt

Samantha Moffatt (right) returns with fiddler/guitarist Jean-Pierre LeDuc and singer and accordionist Mireille Girard. These three musicians, who have appeared here in the past, present lively interpretations of the traditional dance music of Quebec, “chanson”- style songs from France, and their own pieces: listeners are invited sing along, join the foot rhythms, and dance in the aisles!

July 18: Bradford Bog People

Enjoy historic music from the Appalachian Mountains -- lively banjo and fiddle tunes, unusual tunings, beautiful harmonies, and some clogging too. The Bradford Bog People are Beth Eldridge: fiddle, guitar, vocals; Woody Pringle: banjo and mandolin; and Strafford's Tii McLane: banjo, fiddle, guitar, and vocals.

American roots music at its best!

July 25: David Surette and Susie Burke

Susie and David have made a name for themselves as one of the finest acts on the lively New England folk scene. Together since 1988, they have built a steady following for their own blend of contemporary, traditional, and original folk and acoustic music. Susie's vocal style is stunning and heartfelt, and is matched by David's fluid guitar work.

Opening for Dave & Susie will be guitarist Chris Schoelen, who plays Flamenco, Sevillian, classical and blues guitar. Chris recently returned from seven months in Seville, Spain, Flamenco guitar capital of the world. He will perform traditional pieces and share tales of his recent experiences.

David and Susie will offer a Songfest workshop before the concert, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Instruction will also be given for stringed instrument accompaniment. To register or for more information, please contact Lee Funston at (802) 765-4065.
